Kathy Purviance was born Kathryn Marie Morgan on a cold night on January 21st, 1946, on a Sinclair Oil Lease in Creek County in Drumright Oklahoma. She was born to James and Violet Morgan. They had nine children and she was a middle child. Kathy was a switchboard telephone operator for 12 years until she graduated from the University of Texas in Austin.
She became a Home Economics teacher in 1979 and began her career in Lampasas, TX at the age of 30. She also taught in the Dallas area. She taught in Austin before moving to Leadville in 1996 and finished her teaching career as a Substitute Teacher in both Leadville and Buena Vista. Kathy taught Home Economics, Elementary Education, and Early Childhood in Texas. She loved teaching and reached so many students in such positive ways. She was a talented seamstress and baker as well.
Kathy leaves behind Ron, her husband of 42 years and was preceded in death by their only child, Preston Purviance. She also leaves behind their 12-year-old grandchild, Aaralyn-Marie Patricia Purviance and Kathy’s four sisters, Jeanette, Carol, Donna and Mary.
The last 6 years were spent mostly in the Denver area for health reasons. Kathy was a strong Christian believing in Christ. Originally, she was born into the Church of Christ church. In Leadville, Kathy and Ron attended the Catholic Church. The last 6 plus years they were members of Westminster Christian Church in Westminster CO.
Her belief in salvation comforted her through nearly 10 years of multiple cancers. She touched everyone that knew her. Kathy passed on February 8, 2026. May God rest her soul.
Kathy's memorial service will be held at Westminster Christian Church on February 28th at 11:00 MST.
